ROCK SPRINGS – In an effort to prevent adult binge drinking, underage drinking and drunk driving, the Sweetwater County branch of the Prevention Management Organization of Wyoming provides free bi-monthly TiPS trainings to establishments that serve or sell liquor.
TiPS stands for Training for Intervention Procedures and is an internationally recognized education program that touches on subjects such as retail programs, college students and adult consumers.
Most servers or liquor establishment owners don’t realize that they could be held civilly responsible for damages incurred from a drunk-driving incident. Really, this training does go a long way in opening people’s eyes to a whole host of issues that can arise when someone is over-served alcohol. People training in TiPS learn how to handle a wide variety of issues around the service of selling alcohol.

“To offer this training for free is something we believe in 100 percent because the training is that good. Not only for new employees – but all employees,” said Rick Hays, another community prevention professional with PMO. “For the new employees, it gives them more confidence in doing their job and handling situations, especially for somebody who looks like they’re 18 years old who has to card somebody who is 25 or 30. They can be intimidated by this. TiPS will give them the confidence to do this.”
