Game and Fish: Salmon in Bitter Creek are likely the early run from eggs stocked in the Flaming Gorge Reservoir

ROCK SPRINGS – Many Rock Springs residents noticed flashes of bright red moving upstream in the Bitter Creek in the last couple of days. The tell tale behavior of salmon on their way to find a gravel bed to spawn in.

Wyoming Game and Fish Regional Fishing Supervisor Robert Keith said that the fish are likely the early spawning run from eggs that were hatched in Flaming Gorge Reservoir.

Keith said that eggs were placed in the lake and the resulting fish have no ‘home creek’ and are following their species instinct by swimming up stream in search of new gravel beds to lay their eggs in.

Keith added that the Green River has been muddier than usual this year and that may account for the fish choosing to scout out Bitter Creek.
