GREEN RIVER — Brenda Roosa has been inducted into the Wyoming Recreation and Park Association Hall of Fame in recognition of her 33 years of service and impact on the Green River community.

According to a press release from the WRPA, Roosa began her career at the Green River Parks and Recreation Department in 1981 as one of the department’s first two employees. In 1987, Roosa became recreation supervisor at the newly-opened Green River Recreation center, a position she held for 28 years until her retirement in 2015.

Throughout her career she helped build Green River’s recreation system while also overseeing facility operations, staff, budgets, programming and customer service. During her career she earned multiple professional certifications including certified and recreation professional, aquatic facility operator and certified pool operator.

Roosa served on the WRPA board starting in 2001, chairing multiple committees, serving as secretary from 2006-2014 and was recognized with the WRPA Fellow Award in 2012. Brenda also served on community boards and organizations, volunteered as a coach, and supported local schools and youth programs.

One of Roosa’s most lasting contributions to the community was the more than 300 employees she mentored throughout her career, many of whom were young at their first jobs.

“Brenda did not just manage a recreation center. She shaped people,” Katie Blood, Recreation Supervisor at the Green River Recreation Center and Brenda’s nominator said. “Her commitment to Green River, to recreation, and to the people she worked with has left a legacy that continues today.”

The lasting impact of Roosa’s career was evident when she announced her retirement. Former employees, colleagues, community members and recreation professionals from across Wyoming shared messages recognizing her years of service.
