GREEN RIVER — After a weather postponement delayed one of the biggest matchups of the early season, the Green River soccer teams will now travel to face Jackson on Tuesday, with the girls set for 3 p.m. and the boys at 5 p.m.

The games were originally scheduled for last week but were canceled due to unsafe travel conditions. Now rescheduled, the matchups come at a key point in the season as Green River looks to build on its strong start against one of the top programs in Class 4A.

The Wolves enter the contest undefeated at 4-0 and ranked No. 5 in the coaches and media poll last week, while the Lady Wolves sit at 3-1. Both teams are coming off a rivalry sweep of Rock Springs and will now face stiff competition.

Jackson, who ranked No. 1 on the boys’ side and No. 3 in girls heading into their games last week against Rock Springs, earned a 10-0 win in the boys match and a 3-2 victory in the girls game.

For the Green River boys, the matchup presents a major early-season test against the top-ranked team in the state, and an opportunity. The Wolves have shown the ability to score at a high level through their first four matches and now have a chance to hand Jackson its first loss of the season. Jackson’s only blemish so far is a tie against No. 2 Kelly Walsh, a team Green River is set to face later this week. With matchups against the top two teams in the rankings, the Wolves could position themselves for a significant jump if they are able to capitalize.

On the girls side, Green River will look to carry momentum from its recent performances, including a 15-point outing against Star Valley and a strong 6-2 showing in its win over Rock Springs. The Lady Wolves will now face a Jackson team that proved its ability to close out tight matches in its win over the Lady Tigers.
