SWEETWATER COUNTY — Green River and Rock Springs opened their tennis seasons Saturday with both programs hosting Cody and Powell in a pair of home duals.

Green River came away with three team victories, while Rock Springs split its four matches.

Green River

The Green River girls went 2-0 on the day, defeating Cody 4-1 before taking down Powell 4-1.

Against Cody, Sydney Lopez picked up a 6-3, 6-3 victory at No. 2 singles, while Green River won three of the four doubles matches that were reported.

Brynley Beutel and Meghan Thomas won at No. 1 doubles, coming back after dropping the opening set 7-5 to defeat Stevens and Christler 6-1, 7-5 in the final two sets.

Bianca Maez and Taylor Kendall earned a 6-0, 7-5 win at No. 2 doubles, while Olivia Owens and Oliva Wilkenson swept the No. 3 doubles match 6-0, 6-4.

Cody’s Hallie Despain defeated Green River’s Emma Johnson 6-3, 6-2 at No. 1 singles.

The Green River boys also defeated Cody 3-2.

Lucas Arnold led the way at No. 1 singles with a 6-4, 6-2 victory over Beau Beachler. Wesley Law defeated Green River’s Blaise Taylor 6-4, 1-6, 7-5 at No. 2 singles.

Cody’s Beardall and Stewart edged Kaiden Olson and Quentin Bundy 7-6 (5), 4-6, 10-4 in a match tiebreaker at No. 1 doubles.

Green River picked up wins at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles, with Jacob Britton and Lucas Hokanson defeating Bell and Despain 7-5, 6-2. Kyler Steiss and Joe Lovato followed with a 6-0, 7-5 victory over Fullweiler and Ogden.

Green River’s girls continued their strong start against Powell, winning four of five matches.

Meghan Thomas defeated Aubrey Kelley 6-1, 6-2 at No. 2 singles. Green River also swept all three reported doubles matches, with Lopez and Beutel winning 6-2, 6-2, Maez and Kendall taking a 6-0, 6-0 victory, and Emma Johnson and Wilkenson earning another 6-0, 6-0 win.

Powell’s Naomi Whipple defeated Green River’s Oliva Baner-Taylor 6-0, 6-0 at No. 1 singles.

The Green River boys also finished 4-1 against Powell.

Arnold earned another No. 1 singles victory, defeating Memphis Solberg 6-1, 6-1. Olson won at No. 2 singles against Calvin Opps in three sets. Olson dropped the second set 7-6 (6) before winning the third set 7-5.

Green River also won at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles. Bundy and Britton defeated Lee and Wormald 6-1, 6-1, while Taylor and Hokanson won 6-0, 6-1.

Powell’s Phillips and Stensing defeated Steiss and Lovato 4-6, 6-2, 6-0 at No. 3 doubles.

Rock Springs

Rock Springs split its two matchups with Cody, with the Cody girls and boys both earning 3-2 victories.

The Rock Springs girls won at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles. The No. 1 doubles team won 7-5, 6-3, while the No. 2 doubles team earned a 6-0, 6-2 victory. Cody won both singles matches, 7-5, 7-5 at No. 1 singles and 7-5, 6-3 at No. 2 singles. No full result was reported for No. 3 doubles.

Cody also won the boys’ dual 3-2. Rock Springs picked up a 6-2, 6-2 win at No. 2 doubles and a 6-2, 6-7, 10-6 victory at No. 3 doubles. Cody won No. 2 singles 6-2, 6-0, No. 1 doubles 6-3, 5-7, 6-2 and No. 1 singles. A full result was not reported for the No. 1 singles match.

Rock Springs bounced back against Powell on the girls’ side, earning a 3-2 victory.

Powell’s Naomi Whipple won at No. 1 singles 6-0, 6-0, while Powell also won No. 2 singles 6-0, 6-1. Rock Springs swept the three doubles matches, winning No. 1 doubles 6-2, 6-0, No. 2 doubles 6-0, 6-1 and No. 3 doubles 6-0, 6-1.

The Powell boys defeated Rock Springs 3-2.

Rock Springs earned wins at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles. The No. 1 doubles team won 6-3, 7-5, while the No. 3 doubles team battled back for a 6-7, 7-5, 10-6 match-tiebreaker victory.

Powell won both singles matches, taking No. 1 singles 6-3, 6-2 and No. 2 singles 6-0, 6-0. Powell also won No. 2 doubles 6-1, 6-2.

The opening weekend gave both Sweetwater County programs their first competition after beginning official practice Monday, with Green River finishing 4-0 across its boys and girls duals and Rock Springs finishing 1-3.
