JACKSON — According to the Teton County Sheriff’s Office at 12:34 PM on Wednesday, September 3, 2014 Jackson Law Enforcement dispatch received a call that possible human remains had been found by a survey crew in the area of the Sink or Swim Trail on the base of Snow King Mountain.
Officers and Detectives from the Jackson Police Department and the Teton County Sheriff’s Office responded and determined that the remains were indeed human and had been in the location for an extended period. Nothing at the scene suggested that the person died as the result of a crime, but investigation into the facts surrounding the deceased are on-going. The Teton County Coroner’s Office has taken possession of the remains and is working in conjunction with the Jackson Police Department to determine the identity of the person and the cause and time of death.
The Jackson Police Department has an active missing persons case stemming from July 3, 2014 in which a despondent resident was reported missing. The initial investigation into that case lead officers and residents to search areas on and around Snow King Mountain. At this time efforts are being made to determine if the remains recovered today are those of the missing person or if they are unrelated.
At this time no further information is being made available. An addition press release will be forthcoming in the next several days once additional relevant information is learned.
