KEATON WEST
Rock Springs City Council Ward IV

Listen to our candidate interview below:

Tell us a bit about yourself…

I was born and raised in Rock Springs and am proud to call this place home.

I am Tiger alumni to Rock Springs High, received an Associates from Western Wyoming Community College, and a Bachelor of Applied Science degree in Organizational Leadership from the University of Wyoming.

Throughout that time I have also served on various boards as Chairman and member of the Rock Springs Chamber of Commerce Board, Sweetwater County Recreation Board, and most recently the City of Rock Springs Planning & Zoning Commission, Board of Adjustment, and Rock Springs Business Recruitment Committee.

I am happily married to my lovely bride, Dana, and the two of us enjoy just about anything outdoors – especially if it involves being on the water.

What makes you the best choice for Rock Springs City Council Ward IV?

I take a lot of pride in what the City of Rock Springs has to offer.  I want to make it an even better place than it already is for the future generations to come.

That being said, this elected position needs to be vocal, energetic, and passionate about the opportunity to represent what the voters of Ward IV want, and to make a difference for the betterment of the City as a whole.

I believe I carry those traits, and many more. I have experience in the political arena at a relatively young age with a vision to hit the ground running with active collaboration among the other elected councilors and mayor beginning day 1.

While out on the campaign trail I’ve heard from numerous constituents who are ready for change at the city level.  I am ready to be a part of that change and look forward to diligently working through the challenges ahead.

What do you hope to accomplish in your first year as Ward IV Councilman?

It’s no secret that budgetarily the City has been faced with difficult times, but money constraints aside, I have a list of ideas and wishful thinking that I would love to see come to fruition.

Public safety should always remain the top priority, but I think it’s important to promote what this great city has to offer through advancements to the quality of life sector whenever possible.

Perhaps the list is a little farfetched for the first year as the question has asked, but thinking outside the box should offer some form of reward I would think.

A few smaller and less financial burdensome thoughts would be to improve the audio system for the televised council meetings so the constituents can fully understand and be informed on city government – the current coverage seems to constantly cut in and out.

I would also like to work towards developing a streamlined process for obtaining building permits.

With today’s technological advancements, I would think there has to be an easier, more convenient way to obtain and purchase building permits – perhaps online via the city’s website.

I have been vocal about advanced beautification efforts to the gateways entering and exiting the city. I also believe public restrooms in the municipal cemetery would add a nice improvement.

I support the efforts to expand the Bunning Park area and would encourage budgeting for additional community gathering venues as well.

More close to home for the people of Ward IV is the current state of Edgar Street.  Certainly not pointing fingers here, but the condition of this street is simply unacceptable.

It is one of the most traveled streets in the Ward. We should look to improve that and give everyone’s kidneys a break.

Just a few ideas for the first year or so, but I promise I have more than that!
