Kids Get Excited About Reading

ROCK SPRINGS– On Monday, the students of Desert View Elementary School celebrated Dr. Seuss’ birthday and the national Read Across America campaign with a school-wide reading event.

The festivities kicked off with Rock Springs Mayor Tim Kaumo reading a Read Across America proclamation in front of the student body.

The kids then broke into smaller groups, either with friends, family who came to visit for the event, or themselves, and gathered in the hallways to read some books.

The students either chose from books the teachers offered, which included lots of Dr. Seuss classics such as “Cat in the Hat” and “Green Eggs and Ham”, or they read books they brought from home.

The kids were excited to read their favorite books and share them with their classmates and families.

Desert View will be celebrating Read Across America throughout the week with fun dress up days and a lot of reading.

Read Across America is a nationwide initiative on reading that encourages youth to pick up a book and read.
