Lady Tiger volleyball gets win over Green River on Wednesday while Farson-Eden takes a loss on Tuesday; Weekly scores and Saturday action included

ROCK SPRINGS – The Rock Springs Volleyball Tigers started the week started off right as they were able to take down interstate rivals, Green River on Wednesday.

It took all five games, but the Lady Tigers were able to take Green River three sets to two sets. Both teams entered the match on Wednesday coming off strong performances in the Gillette Tournament.

It was the Lady Wolves who put the pressure on early as they were able to take the first set 25-22. The Lady Tigers came back strong in the second as they stopped the Green River attack for the 25-17 win to even the match.

Riding momentum, Rock Springs continued to play strong to put the Lady Wolves on the ropes taking the third set, 25-16. The Lady Wolves worked hard to force a fifth set and avoid the loss. In a closer fourth set, the Wolves were able to beat Rock Springs, 25-21.

In the fifth and deciding set, Rock Springs controlled early and never looked back. The Lady Tigers were able to get a big conference win with the fifth-set win, 15-6.

Wyopreps recently released the first volleyball rankings of the year. Rock Springs did receive votes but sits just outside the top five in sixth. Cheyenne East grabbed the top spot followed by Kelly Walsh in second. Natrona, Riverton and Cheyenne Central rounded out the top five. Evanston also received votes as they currently sit in seventh.

The Lady Tigers have the weekend off as and will return to action on Sept. 16 at home against Riverton. Green River does not return to action until Sept. 19 as they host Natrona.

 

Farson-Eden

On Tuesday night, the Farson-Eden Lady Pronghorns faced 2A Big Piney. The Lady Pronghorns took the court with a record of 3-3 including one conference loss. Farson had a strong showing in the Saratoga Invitational last weekend. Big Piney took the court as the early leader of the 2A Southwest Division with a record of 4-2 including a conference win.

The Pronghorns put up a tough fight and kept it close throughout but could not get those crucial points in the match. Big Piney won the first set 25-23 and the Lady Pronghorns battled back to even the match with a 25-21 win in the second. Big Piney was able to take the match with close wins in the third and fourth sets, 25-21 and 25-23.

In the 1A rankings, Hulett sits in the top spot followed by Little Snake River in second, Cokeville in third, Encampment in fourth and Upton rounding out the top five.

Despite a strong early-season record, Big Piney is not in the top five in the 2A rankings. Big Horn holds the top while Wright sits in second. Burns, Southeast and Lyman round out the top five.

The Lady Pronghorns will be in action on Saturday at the Hanna Invitational.

 

3A Rankings

Powell received the most first-place votes as they come in no. 1 in the 3A rankings. Not far behind is Mountain View. Powell received 17 first-place votes while Mountain View received 14. Lovell, Rawlins and Douglas round out the top five.
