EVANSTON – The Lady Tigers struggled to get going at the beginning of sets as Evanston swept Rock Springs to open the 4A West Regional Volleyball Tournament Friday.
Evanston started strong in all three sets and the Lady Tigers fell too far behind to catch up. Despite getting down early in all three, Rock Springs would score points late.
The Lady Red Devils opened the first set with a 4-1 lead but behind Sidney Reese serving, RSHS answered to pull within one, 4-3. Evanston scored the next five until blocks by Bailee Radakovich and Sarye Thomas stopped the run. With the score, 9-5, Evanston would outscore the Lady Tigers 10-2 to pull away.Kills by Skya Legerski and Thomas sparked Rock Springs late as EHS struggled to put the set away. Despite the small push, Evanston took the first, 25-13.
The Lady Devils opened the second set on a 14-2 run. Rock Springs changed the lineup bringing in Kia Comstock to try and shake things up. The move worked and behind strong serving by Morgan Doporto, Rock Springs put together a small run to cut into the early deficit. The big start was too much and despite struggling to put Rock Springs away again, Evanston jumped up by two, 25-11.
The third set was a mirror of the first two as errant passing led to a big Evanston lead early. The Red Devils scored the first seven to start the third set. Legerski and Thomas continued to provide strong play for Rock Springs at the net but it was too much Evanston. The Lady Red Devils would close out the final set to advance, 25-12.
