Laramie Man Found Guilty of Sexual Exploitation of a Child

CHEYENNE – A resident of F.E. Warren Air Force Base has been found guilty by a jury of sexual exploitation of a child, attempted coercion and enticement, incest and abusive sexual contact.

U.S. Attorney Christopher A. Crofts announced that Laramie resident Timothy Michael Wells has been convicted in federal court. A jury found Wells guilty of sexual exploitation of a child, attempted coercion and enticement, incest, and abusive sexual contact after a three-day jury trial in the United States District Court in Cheyenne.

Wells is scheduled to be sentenced by Federal District Court Judge Alan B. Johnson on January 12, 2016. The charges were filed May 20 in the U.S. District Court of Wyoming.

According to reports a grand jury indictment accused Timothy M. Wells of committing a sexual act on a family member on the base between January 2011 and March of 2015.

The indictment further claimed that Wells engaged in sexual contact with a person without permission. Grand Jury reports also say Wells placed a motion-activated camera in the victim’s bathroom and used the camera to capture images without consent.

The investigation in this case was conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Wyoming Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force, and was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Thomas A. Szott and James C. Anderson.
