MHSC moving forward on final licensing for new chairs at new dialysis unit; All eight chairs should be licensed by next month

ROCK SPRINGS – After several public open house events for the new dialysis unit, Memorial Hospital of Sweetwater County had a more personal open house for those closest to the project.

While showing the new unit, Director of Dialysis Services, Jason L. Jones, spoke a little about the permitting process for the new unit. At the Wednesday night MHSC Board meeting, administrators gave an update on permitting developments involving the new unit which is located in the Medical Office Building.

Chief Executive Officer Jerry Klein said they have finally got everything moved over and are seeing patients. Klein said he has been over to the unit several times recently and told the board the dialysis patients looked like they are really enjoying the new center.

Before the expansion involving the Medical Office Building, MHSC had four chairs for dialysis patients and were licensed by the state for four chairs. With the expansion, the number of chairs was increased to eight. Although the new center has eight chairs, they are only licensed to run four of them while the state finishes the permitting process.

During the open house Jones said they have been rotating the use of the chairs to cut down on wait times for patients while MHSC waits to get licensed to run all eight.

Back to the Wednesday board meeting, Chief Nursing Officer Deb Gaspar said a state representative started his review on Monday and left Wednesday. Gaspar said in his report he noted a two minor changes the hospital will need to make.

Once the changes have been made, a report will be sent back to the state and once it is approved MHSC will be licensed for all eight chairs. She said she expects everything to be finalized next month.
