Monster Trucks, the Guess Who, Oktoberfest and Rocky Mountain MMA Among Those Approved for Alcohol Permits

ROCK SPRINGS – After being tabled two weeks ago, a request for a malt beverage permit at an upcoming MMA event was approved by the Rock Springs City Council.

The permit request was submitted by Myers Corp for a Rocky Mountain MMA event in Rock Springs. They are no stranger to the area as they have been promoting these events in both Rock Springs and Pinedale for several years.

When it was first discussed by council two weeks ago, there were some concerns voiced by Rock Springs Police Chief Dwane Pacheco. The top concern was over security. Wyoming has a committee that sets rules which must be followed for fighting events. One of these rules states at least one law enforcement officer has to be at the event.

At the meeting two weeks ago Pacheco said while Myers Corp informed him there will be an officer there but the name of the officer was not given. The council tabled it to get more information from Myers Corp.

On Tuesday night, Mayor Carl Demshar gave a brief background and said he had been informed Pacheco’s concerns had been addressed. Pacheco said the officer who will at the event is a deputy from the Sublette County Sheriff’s Office. He also informed the council Myers will have six volunteers helping at the event, four of which will be helping with security.

The fights will be at the Sweetwater Events Complex on Aug. 29. The permit will be good from 6 p.m. until midnight.
