RIVERTON – Due to warm temperatures, gusty southwest winds, and low humidity, a red flag warning has been continued for mainly portions of Natrona and Washakie counties through this evening. A red flag warning means that critical fire weather conditions are either occurring now or will shortly. A combination of strong winds, low relative humidity, and warm temperatures can contribute to extreme fire behavior. Today, generally dry conditions are expected, with only an isolated shower or thunderstorm possible across the northwestern mountains. Temperatures will be slightly cooler today, but still near to slightly above normal. Breezy winds can also be expected today, mainly across western, southern, and central Wyoming. Shower activity and breezy winds are expected to diminish tonight. Wednesday will begin a warmup, that could last into early next week. High temperatures are expected to be in the 90s east of the divide, with 70s and 80s west of the divide. A few isolated thunderstorms will be possible across the mountains during this warmup, as just enough instability will be present.
