ROCK SPRINGS —Rock Springs organizations presented the Rock Springs City Council with their budget requests in preparation for the upcoming Fiscal Year 2023 budget.
Numerous organizations visited with the Council about their proposed budget requests during a recent special meeting with the Council.
Most of the organizations requested an increase to their budgets over what they received last year. However, Southwest Wyoming Regional Airport and Senior Citizens’ group actually decreased their budget requests from last year’s allocated amount.
Requests overall increased by $260,000 over the Fiscal Year 2022 allocations. Total requests for FY 2023 were roughly $1.85 million, while last year’s allocation amounted to $1.6 million. The biggest request at a little more than $1.4 million is coming from Joint Powers Combined Communications, which is requesting nearly $209,000 more than last year’s allocated amount.
According to information for the City of Rock Springs, this is only the second time the Ray Lovato Recycling Center has made a request since at least 2016. The recycling center received $95,000 back in 2020. The Boys and Girls Club also submitted a new budget request for the first time since 2016.
