ROCK SPRINGS – Western Wyoming Community College and USA Triathlon Rocky Mountain Region have announced that Western’s “Race on the Rock” Triathlon in Rock Springs has been selected as part of the Rocky Mountain Region Talent ID Series. The second annual event will be held Saturday, Aug. 29, at the Rock Springs campus.
The Rocky Mountain Region Talent ID Series is designed to foster the development of young athletes ages 13 – 19. The series aims to encourage participation for young athletes, foster excitement about competing in the Rocky Mountain Region, and ultimately serve as a pipeline for future Olympic contenders. Western’s race is one of only four Talent ID races scheduled for the Rocky Mountain Region this year.
The Rocky Mountain Region Talent ID Series is open to all athletes between the “race ages” of 13 and 19. “Race age” refers to the athlete’s age on Dec. 31, 2015. The Youth division features competitors with race ages of 13 – 15. The Junior division features competitors with race ages of 16 – 19. Competitors for the Talent ID Series Race will begin the swim portion of the event at 9 a.m.
The Race on the Rock Triathlon will take place on the Western campus and the surrounding city streets, and is open to all competitors. This fun, family-friendly event is a USA Triathlon Sanctioned Race. It is one of the highest-altitude races in the country, which adds an extra level of difficulty to the endeavor.
