ROCK SPRINGS – The saga of the 1982 LaFrance fire truck continues as the Rock Springs City Council tabled a motion which would have sent the truck to Idaho after hearing news about Bairoil.
During the public hearing portion to decide whether to send the fire truck to Murphy Reynolds Wilson Volunteer Fire District for $100, Commissioner John Kolb asked the Rock Springs Council to table the motion. He said there might be a need for the truck in the county; saying the water in the Bairoil truck recently froze and damaged the pump, rendering the truck unusable.
Councilman Rob Zotti was the one who stopped the truck from going to bid a couple months ago. The option at that time was to bid the truck which would have probably meant it would be scrapped and sold for parts. Zotti wanted to see if any fire department in the area could use the truck.
After hearing Kolb speak about Bairoil he said this was exactly why he stopped it from going to bid. Zotti said he would be in favor of tabling the motion as they explore Sweetwater County needs.
“I would like to see it be used closer to home,” Zotti said adding Idaho is close, but it could be used closer.
Councilwoman Glennise Wendorf asked Kolb how long it would take to determine if the truck could be used. Kolb said he thought a month would be adequate. Zotti said these communities pay sales tax in the county, and the truck should be used in Sweetwater County if possible.
Instead of voting to send the truck to Idaho, the council unanimously voted to table the action until the county needs could be investigated.
