ROCK SPRINGS – The Rock Springs Chamber of Commerce Retail Committee has set Dec. 6 as the annual Holiday Parade. On Tuesday, the Rock Springs City Council will take action on the parade route.

The parade is set to begin at 5:30 p.m. and the proposed route will travel through Historic Downtown Rock Springs starting on the corner of C Street and Broadway. The floats will travel down South Main, then turn right on to E street, left on to Broadway and then under the underpass and onto M Street.

From M street the floats will make a left on to Pilot Butte, a left turn on to K Street, followed by a right turn on to North Front, after traveling down North Front the parade will end at the corner of Elk Street and North Front. The floats will then disperse into the Vase Funeral Home parking area or over the “A” Street viaduct.

The Chamber is requesting permission to use this route for the parade on December 6th, 2014 from 2 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. They will be lining the participants up beginning at 3 p.m. at the top of “C” Street.

The Chamber is also requesting a police escort for the parade, beginning at 5 p.m.

“We have been contacting interested parties and people are thrilled about this year’s Holiday Parade,” the Retail Committee said in its request to council. “The Chamber Retail Committee is confident that this event will result in more shoppers for our downtown merchants.”

It is also their plan that with Christmas in the Park happening both before and after the Holiday Lighted Parade, that patrons will visit our downtown shops during this time. At the end of the Holiday Lighted Parade, Santa will continue to Christmas in the Park at Bunning Park.

“We would like to thank you for helping the Rock Springs Chamber of Commerce in promoting the community and creating a strong local economy,” the request letter said. “The Lighted Holiday Parade is an annual reminder of the commitment the City of Rock Springs, the Rock Springs Chamber of Commerce and community members have to making Rock Springs a wonderful place for everyone.”

Rock Springs Fire Department.

The Rock Springs Fire Department is seeking permission to apply for a Walmart Community Grant in the amount of $2,000. This grant would be used to purchase child passenger safety seats for the Rock Springs Child Passenger Safety Program.

The Rock Springs Fire Department Child Passenger Safety Program is designed to educate parents and caregivers on the proper installation and use of child safety seats. The mission of the program is to keep children safe while they are in the vehicle. The program utilizes the Safe Kids USA national child safety seat and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration criteria.

Currently the Child Safety Program operates inspection stations that allow parents and caregivers to obtain assistance with their child safety seat. The RSFD certified technicians inspect the installation and condition of their child safety seat. If a seat is on recall or is past its expiration date, the department assists them with the installation of a new seat.

If the parent or caregiver does not have a child safety seat, the program provides low or no cost safety seats. The goal is to have the child leave the inspection station safer than when they arrived.

Liquor Catering Permit

The council will act on a request from Black Rock, Inc. for a liquor catering permit for the Rock Springs City Employee Christmas Party on December 5 from 5 p.m.  to 10 p.m. at the Broadway Theater.

Appointments

There is one appointment which the council will take action on. The appointment is for RJ Pieper to fill Marilyn Noble’s unexpired term on the Rock Springs Historical Museum.
