Rock Springs Firefighters Extinguish Apartment Fire this Afternoon

ROCK SPRINGS — Quick work on the behalf of the Rock Springs Fire Department (RSFD) firefighters kept an apartment fire on Thompson Street from spreading.

At 1:12 p.m. on November 12, the RSFD was dispatched to a report of a structure fire at 1445 Thompson Street Apartment 7. Rock Springs Fire responded with three apparatus and nine personnel, according to a RSFD press release.

Upon arrival, one apartment had visible smoke and flames showing with the adjacent apartments threatened. All occupants had exited the structure safely and the adjoining units had been evacuated. Thompson Command was established and crews began suppression operations with additional crew performing a quick search of the fire unit and checking for extension to the second floor and adjoining apartments, the release stated.

The fire was controlled at 1:33 p.m. Two individuals were evaluated at the scene for smoke inhalation, but did not require further treatment. There were no injuries to occupants nor firefighters from this incident, according to the release.

The RSFD would like to thank the Rock Springs Police Department for their assistance in evacuating the apartments and helping keep the scene secure and Sweetwater Medics for being available to help with any potential injuries from the fire to civilians and public safety personnel.

After investigation, the cause of the fire was determined to be from discarded smoking materials. The RSFD reminds everyone to make sure that all smoking materials are completely extinguished before disposing of them.
