ROCK SPRINGS — Rock Springs Firefighters Local 1499 is accepting new toys and cash donations for its annual Toys for Kids program, which provides Christmas gifts to children up to age 12.

Donations will be accepted until 7 p.m.on Dec. 7 at the Rock Springs Fire Department Headquarters Station. Checks should be made out to “Toys for Kids” or cash donations given directly to RSFD Headquarters. Ace Hardware stores in Rock Springs and Green River are also helping collect donations.

The union is sponsoring the program with the support of the RSFD. According to the local, firefighters have collected and sorted donated toys for decades so children in the community can receive a gift at Christmas.

Any family that needs help making sure children through age 12 receive a Christmas gift is eligible. To distribute the toys equally, families must sign up in advance. Sign-ups will be held at the Food Bank of Sweetwater County on Nov. 12, from 10 a.m.-2:30 p.m. and Nov. 24 from 10 a.m.- 2:30 p.m.

The giveaway will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. Dec. 13 at the old Washington School.

This year’s program starts with the 33rd annual Toy Run on Sunday, Nov. 8.
