ROCK SPRING – A local area man has officially been charged after allegedly being involved in a disturbance with his sister only to return later armed with a firearm.

James Allen Wakefield made an initial appearance on Friday in the Third Judicial District Rock Springs Circuit Court where he was officially charged with aggravated assault and battery with a deadly weapon.

On Aug. 29 at approximately 7:30 p.m. officers of the Rock Springs Police Department responded to 1508 9th St. in reference to a disturbance involving a gun. Rock Springs Police Officer Darren Johnson located several people including Nolan Perry who was in possession of a black revolver outside the residence. Perry complied as Johnson ordered him to put the .22 caliber revolver down.

Perry told investigators he was going to go have dinner at his girlfriends house, upon arrival James Wakefield and his sister were yelling at each other. Perry said he tried to separate the siblings but the argument escalated into a physical dispute.

Perry said that the parties were separated for a second time and everyone told Wakefield to leave. Wakefield allegedly punched Perry in the face which started a second fight. According to court documents everyone was separated and Wakefield was finally forced from the residence.

Perry told investigators that approximately five minutes later, Wakefield allegedly returned in his vehicle, this time armed with a firearm. Wakefield then allegedly pointed the firearm at Perry. Perry said he was able to wrestle the gun away and Wakefield fled the area.

Wakefield was located and interviewed. He claimed his sister started yelling at him and when Perry entered he also started yelling at him. Wakefield said he tried to leave several time but was not allowed to. According to charging documents Wakefield said he only returned to retrieve his cell phone and took to gun only to scare Perry.
