ROCK SPRINGS – Four years of competition all comes down to Saturday night as the top cowboys and cowgirls will battle for a National Championship.

Saturday night’s finals will wrap up a four-year contract with the National High School Finals Rodeo. The Sweetwater Events Complex has submitted a bid to host the event again starting in 2018. The NHSFR Board is expected to have a decision after Saturday night’s board meeting at the rodeo.

After 12 performances, the top competitors will hit the arena on Saturday at 7 p.m. The top 20 averages of both combined runs made the finals. Several Wyoming participants will go after titles.

In bareback riding, Wyoming has three cowboys going to the finals. Big Piney’s Chance Ames leads the average while Douglas rider Hunter Carlson is right behind in second. Brian Brown of LaBarge is also in the top five with the fourth-best average.

In goat tying Jacey Thompson of Lusk currently sits in 15th while Brady Thurston of Lance Creek is in 16th in saddle bronc. Laramie’s Justin Dory and Big Piney’s Tanner Butner just missed the finals as both tied for 21st.

Wyoming will have a good shot of taking a title in the tie down competition. Bear River’s Colton Kofoed leads the field. Evanston’s A.C. Martin is right behind sitting in the fourth spot.

In pole bending, Wyoming will have two competing on Saturday night. Newcastle cowgirl Abi Deveraux finished her two runs in 10th place. Last year’s Rookie All-Around Cowgirl winner Karson Bradley of Big Piney sits in 17th.

Wyoming will be represented in team roping by Kellan and Jayden Johnson. The Johnson’s currently sit in third. In barrel racing, Lysite’s Sierra Spratt leads the way as she currently sits in the fifth position. Big Piney’s Bradley and Pinedale’s Kassidy Williams both used solid runs on Saturday morning to break into the top 20. Bradley posted the fastest time in Performance 12 Saturday morning to move into ninth overall. Williams was right behind Bradley with the second-best time Saturday morning. Her run has her in the 14th position.

Big Piney’s Rylee Whitman two runs have her in the 10th spot in girl’s cutting.
