Special Weather Statement for Strong Winds Issued for Sweetwater County

SWEETWATER COUNTY — The United States National Weather Service (NWS) Riverton Office has issued a Special Weather Statement for strong winds.

According to the NWS, Sweetwater County, along with the Green and Rattlesnake ranges, can expect westerly winds of 25-35 mph with wind gusts between 50-55 mph. These wind conditions are expected throughout the night and anticipated to end around 5 am Monday, January 18.

The NWS is anticipating travel along Interstate 80 to be impacted by the wind. Those traveling in light and high profile vehicles, including camp trailers and semi trucks will be the most impacted. Portions of I80 in southeastern Wyoming have already been closed to light and high profile vehicles. For current road conditions visit the Wyoming Department of Transportation’s website.
