SWEETWATER COUNTY — The United States National Weather Service issued a special weather statement to inform Sweetwater County residents of possible 55 mph wind gusts today.
According to the special weather statement, strong winds are likely to hit Sweetwater and Lincoln counties today, October 12, through 7:30 pm.
Southwest winds will increase from 25-35 mph with gusts reaching 45 to 55 mph. This will also impact travel on Interstate 80. Motorists will want to be alert of strong crosswinds, especially with traveling in high profile vehicles or when driving a vehicle towing light trailers.
The Wyoming Department of Transportation(WYDOT) has already issued road closures for high profile vehicles due to high gusting winds on I-80 between Elk Mountain at Exit 235 to Cheyenne at Exit 348.
It has also closed Interstate 25 between the Colorado state line and Cheyenne to Wheatland at Exit 73 to high profile vehicles due to high gusting winds. An estimated opening time for when these closures would be lifted was not provided by WYDOT.
