GILLETTE — Swimmers across the state gathered together in Gillette over the weekend for the 2022 4A state swimming and diving championships.
Rock Springs saw several strong performances from the team, which helped the Tigers grasp a seventh place finish out of 11 teams in attendance. The Tigers finished with a total 74 team points.
Junior John Spicer made history and was crowned state champion in the 100-yard freestyle. He also placed fourth in the 50-yard freestyle. Spicer broke the school records for both events which were previously set by Connor Vasa in 2013.

A couple other Tigers also saw placements including Sophomore Gunner Seiloff who placed sixth in the 100-yard freestyle and won the consolation championship to earn seventh place in the 50-yard freestyle. Senior Kyler Maedche placed twelfth in the 500-yard freestyle.
As for relay teams, Rock Springs’ John Spicer, Dante Moreno, Kyler Maedche, and Gunner Seiloff placed fifth in the 200-yard freestyle relay. Seth Atkinson, Carter McBurnett, Dailen Petersen and Dante Moreno placed eighth in the 200-yard medley relay.
