Stephen M. (Steve) Crockett, born April 23, 1948, joined his wife Mary Catherine (Cathy) Wales Crockett, born September 20, 1951 in heaven on March 21, 2019. Cathy preceded him in passing on May 17, 2016. Steve was taken after a sudden diagnosis with Leukemia only two weeks ago. Despite the devastating diagnosis, Steve’s unique humor remained until the very end.
Steve and Cathy were married on October 3, 1969 in Denver, Colorado. Although they lived in several places throughout their lives together, they called Wyoming home while raising their three sons Jon (Brandi) Crockett, Matt (Liz) Crockett, and Chris (Sarah) Crockett. Steve and Cathy were incredibly loving parents and proud grandparents to their eight grandchildren (Jake, Cooper, Hanna, Hailey, Kelsey, Abby, Connor, and Sean). Family was always the center of Steve and Cathy’s lives from their times on the family farms in Ottawa, Kansas and Odebolt, Iowa to gatherings at their cabin in Atlantic City, Wyoming. Laughter and a bit of sarcasm were staples of family gatherings. Many happy memories were created and shared when the families got together.
The couple lost their oldest son Jon after a courageous battle against cancer on August 24, 2015. Jon’s passing was very difficult for the family and was compounded by Cathy’s passing only eight short months later. In the months after losing Jon and Cathy, Steve returned to Lander, Wyoming to be near his sons and their families. Although they left us too soon, Steve and Cathy left a lifetime’s worth of memories with friends and family. Please join us in remembering both Steve and Cathy as amazing parents, loving grandparents, brother, big sister, aunt and uncle, a PROUD Marine, and good friends.
Steve and Cathy have asked to have their ashes combined with wild flower seeds and scattered in their beloved Wind River Mountains. No formal services will be conducted, however thoughts and prayers are appreciated.
Semper Fi. Love Always.
