EVANSTON – Strong serving by the Evanston Lady Red Devils had the Rock Springs Lady Tigers off balance Tuesday night as they fell in three sets, 25-11, 25-12 and 25-19.
Rock Springs entered Tuesday night’s match coming off conference losses against the two top teams in the West Conference, Kelly Walsh and Natrona. Evanston also entered the night looking for its first conference win sitting at 0-2.
Evanston opened strong and jumped out on the Lady Tigers 10-1 in the opening set. The ladies never found a rhythm in the first game and dropped to the Lady Devils, 25-11.
Behind Lindsey Pearson and strong net play, Rock Springs remained close to start the second set. With RSHS trailing by two, Evanston rallied to double up the Lady Tigers, 12-6. Strong Lady Red Devils serving was key as they rolled at that point to take the second game, 25-12.
in the final game, it was Evanston that  jumped up early taking a 7-3 lead. Net play by Sarye Thomas and strong serving by Pearson would bring Rock Springs even at 7. Solid passing by Morgan Doporto also was key in the comeback.
EHS would jump out to a three-point lead but Kristin McCrann would again bring the Lady Tigers back. With Rock Springs trailing by one, 14-13, Evanston struck for six straight points to jump ahead 20-13.
Backline play from Jordyn Lee, Doporto and McCrann had Evanston making errors as RSHS climbed back to pull back within three but the ladies of Evanston won the points they needed down the stretch to take the match, 25-19.
The Lady Tigers return to Casper this weekend for mid-season tournament play with matches scheduled against Douglas, Mt. View and Cheyenne East on Friday.
