JACKSON — At approximately 8:30 a.m. Teton County Dispatch received a call for an ambulance at a lodging property in Teton Village. Initial information gathered by dispatchers from the patient about her symptoms and potential travel history of those in her party led responders to determine there was reason to suspect the patient might have had an infectious disease of high concern. Armed with this information, a coordinated response medical team consulted with the Wyoming Department of Health to ensure their response met all current protocols. Upon examination of the patient at the lodging property it was determined that no members of her travel party had visited areas of concern and that the patient’s symptoms were consistent with a more common flu-like illness. The patient was transported to St. John’s Medical Center for treatment.
According to St. John’s Medical Center CEO Lou Hochheiser, MD, “This was a well coordinated response and exactly what was warranted in this particular situation.”
Jackson Hole Fire/EMS, St. John’s Medical Center, Teton County Public Health, Teton County Emergency Management and Teton County Dispatch continue to work together to ensure preparedness by conducting planning, training and community education to protect our residents and visitors in the unlikely event that a case of Ebola arises.
