Evil must be destroyed. An understanding of Jesus that captures only His sacrifice and compassion is nothing more than a half-truth. Jesus is also God’s ‘word of judgement’ upon all that is evil. We love and serve the King of kings and the Lord of lords. No matter how evil the world becomes, in the end, justice will be served at the Word of Jesus.
Revelation 5:5-6 (NLT)…“Stop weeping! Look, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the heir to David’s throne, has won the victory. He is worthy to open the scroll and its seven seals.” 6 Then I saw a Lamb that looked as if it had been slaughtered, …
Jesus, The Lamb. John is told there is a Lion who is worthy, but when he looks, He only sees a Lamb. We (humans) are the same way; our savior is a Lion, but our first images of Him are of the Lamb. We have read of the One coming down from heaven. We know the Christmas Story. We can imagine His mother and His stepdad Joseph. We imagine the wonder of His ministry. We weep at the retelling of His Sacrifice, and we reflect upon His ascension.
We see the sacrifice. We hear words of forgiveness. We are challenged with invitations to follow him. He is gentle. He is patient. He is direct, but He is not forceful.
Jesus, The Lion. Jesus will not change. He is the same yesterday, today, and forever. But the TIMES will change. The fullness of time will come. The created realm will ultimately reach its maximum level of corruption. There will come a time when the last soul that can be saved, will be saved. Then there is a “Jesus” we don’t talk about much, a form of Jesus that we haven’t considered as much.
A Jesus of Judgment. We don’t talk of this Jesus much. There was a reason ancient Judaism expected the Messiah to return and mete out justice against their enemies. This is exactly what the Messiah will do. He will return and release God’s wrath against all who opposed God’s people. Jesus- the Answer- will answer the problem of EVIL.
Revelation 19:11-16 (NLT) Then I saw heaven opened, and a white horse was standing there. Its rider was named Faithful and True, for He judges fairly and wages a righteous war. 12 His eyes were like flames of fire, and on His head were many crowns. A name was written on Him that no one understood except Himself. 13 He wore a robe dipped in blood, and His title was the Word of God. 14 The armies of heaven, dressed in the finest of pure white linen, followed Him on white horses. 15 From His mouth came a sharp sword to strike down the nations. He will rule them with an iron rod. He will release the fierce wrath of God, the Almighty, like juice flowing from a winepress. 16 On His robe at His thigh was written this title: King of all kings and Lord of all lords.
In the Beginning Was The Word… And, In The End, Is The Word
The Word FROM God. “his title was the Word of God”
Of course, it is John who relates Jesus’ revelation to us. It was John who had Jesus as The Word of God revealed to him by the Holy Spirit. Jesus is … God’s First Word. He is God’s Last Word. He is God’s Beginning Word and He is God’s Final Word.
If you want to know God, then Jesus is the way. God’s heart, God’s plan, and God’s care are all displayed in Jesus. You see the miracles. You are in awe of His sacrifice. We are all astounded by His resurrection and today, we see that last word in one of the final scenes of time.
The Word FOR You. “The armies of heaven,,, followed him on white horses.”
Behind this rider on a white horse is an army on white horses. They follow Him; they are literally followers of The Word. Are they people? Are they angels? No one is sure, actually, and it doesn’t even matter because they are mere spectators in the battle that is about to take place. Their job will not be to win the battle. In fact, it seems they already have won. Maybe their job is to occupy the Lion’s (the Word’s) victory (Rev 20:4). But there is no doubt that they are Following The Word.
The Word OF God. “From his mouth came a sharp sword”
Pride, sin, rebellion, corruption, and death have had so much to “SAY”, but that ends here. All that Adam “SAID” in his rebellion ends. All that Satan “SAID” in his rebellion ends. All that is “not God” ends right here. Worshippers of money, power, comfort, lust, and hate, this is the end. Here all evil and all its workers are destroyed from the face of the earth.
Jesus, IS the King of kings. Jesus is the Lord of lords. This is the Final Judgment.
Will You Rethink Jesus?
As a Strong Warrior? “He wore a robe dipped in blood…”
This is not a reference to Jesus’ sacrifice. It is a prophetic image drawn from Isaiah 63. It is a picture of crushing grapes in a winepress, used to depict God crushing His enemies. Of course, the same image is even referenced here.
Jesus deserves your respect. Those who see Jesus as a beacon for the weak-minded? Those who believe faith is for the timid? They aren’t tough enough for Jesus. They think following Jesus means going to church and being nice. No, Jesus is for warriors. Jesus is for champions!
As a Worthy Commander? “The armies of heaven,,, followed him on white horses.”
Will you submit to His command? Seriously, why do so many think they should be telling Jesus what to do? “Jesus, fix my husband, my finances, my health, my problems.” Following Jesus is doing what He says.
As a Righteous Judge? “Its rider was named Faithful and True, for he judges fairly,,,”
Everything is going to be made right. Jesus is going to settle all the accounts. Everyone gets justice. Those killed by racism and hate. Those destroyed by greed and oppression. Those used and abused by lust and sex. Those martyred for their faith. There will be justice for all.
What You’ve Been Waiting For…
Which side of the battle line are you on? What kind of Jesus do you follow? The Lion, the Lamb, or The Lion and the Lamb? Is Jesus your Commander?
Evil must be destroyed. Jesus is God’s Word of Judgement upon all that is evil. No matter how evil the world becomes, in the end, justice will be served at the Word of Jesus.
