ROCK SPRINGS – The Sweetwater Summer Stock Theatre Company and Western Wyoming Community College’s Department of Theatre and Dance will present four stage productions this summer. They are: The Boy Friend; Anne of Green Gables; Disney’s The Jungle Book Kids; and Into the Woods, Jr. The last two titles are presented in collaboration with Sweetwater BOCES and Sweetwater Summer Theatre for Youth.

The season commences Friday, June 21 with The Boy Friend, a lighthearted musical that takes place on the French Riviera during the 1920s and features delightful dance numbers, catchy tunes, romance, and happy endings. The show will run June 21, 22, 28, and 29, andJuly 5, 6, 12, 13, 19, 20, 26, and 27, at The Broadway Theater in downtown Rock Springs. All shows begin at 7:30 p.m.

Next, Sweetwater BOCES and Sweetwater Summer Theatre for Youth will feature 96 local youths from ages 9 to 18 in productions of Disney’s The Jungle Book Kids and Into the Woods Jr.  Disney’s The Jungle Book Kids will take audiences into the heart of the jungle to meet Mowgli, a young boy who has been raised by wolves, and his many jungle friends. Into the Woods Jr. is an entertaining mash-up of well-known fairy tales.

Both shows will take the stage June 26 and 27 at the WWCC Theatre. The Jungle Book Kidsbegins at 7 p.m. and Into the Woods Jr. begins at 8 p.m. both nights.

The final summer production for 2013 will be Anne of Green Gables, based on the beloved classic novel by LM Montgomery. The play depicts the coming-of-age tale of a precocious orphan named Anne who comes to live with an elderly brother and sister on Prince Edward Island. Anne of Green Gables runs July 3, 4, 10, 11, 17, 18, 24 and 25, and begins at 7:30 p.m. in the WWCC Theatre.

The Sweetwater Summer Stock Theatre Company features 25 company members who sing, act and dance together in shows, and who also have opportunities to direct, design technical elements, and teach in the Sweetwater Summer Theatre for Youth program.

“Summer Stock is absolutely fantastic in every way,” said Jasmine Anderson, of Lehi, Utah, who has rejoined the company for her second year. “Sure, we get tired and busy and don’t have a whole lot of time to breathe, but we learn SO much and we get to develop new friendships and new skills. I also get to use the techniques I love, and gain new roles to grow from. Summer stock is the perfect time to really stretch yourself and see how far you can go.”

All productions are appropriate for ages 5 and up. Children under 5 will not be admitted.  Tickets for The Boy Friend and Anne of Green Gables are $6 for students/seniors and $10 for adults, and may be purchased at the door.
