Thunderstorms Forming Near Uinta Mountains Could Impact Sweetwater County Tonight

SWEETWATER COUNTY — National High School Finals Rodeo participants along with locals should be prepared for possible thunderstorms tonight.

A significant weather advisory expired at 3:45 p.m. the advisory stated that at 2:59 p.m. doppler radar was tracking a group of thunderstorms across central Sweetwater County moving northeast at 35 mph.

The storm missed Rock Springs. However thunderstorms are forming over the Eastern Uinta Mountain range in Utah and some of those may hold together and will be moving north, toward Rock Springs and Green River this afternoon and tonight.

According to the NWS Office in Riverton we can expect wind gusts to be the most likely threat tonight, with wind speeds up to 45 mph.

These storms will likely be typical summertime thunderstorms producing gusty winds and small amounts of rain with the possibility of lightning.
