EVANSTON – After a strong opening dual win, the Rock Spring Tigers traveled to Evanston for their first tournament of the year.
Head Coach Brad Profaizer said the wrestlers continued to show improvement and excitement for competition as they finished fifth overall. The Tigers scored 130 points, training fourth-place Evanston by 19 points. Utah’s Bear River took home to top spot followed by Green River.
Individually, the Tigers had eight wrestlers place in the top five including two titles. Cameron Metcalf placed first at 120 scoring two falls including one in the title match. Ashton Dupape earned first at 126 scoring decision wins in the semifinals and finals. In the semis, he earned a 14-10 win over Green River’s Gage Byers and followed it with a 7-2 win in the championship over Bear River’s Maverik Skinner.
At 132, Trevor Ryan scored three falls to move into the finals but came up short in a 15-5 decision to finish second. R.J. Stassinos finished third at 132 while Teno Trujillo, Thomas Rezzonico and Cole Seymour finished fourth.
In the J.V. division, Trevor Allred finished third at 113, Casey Isaacson fifth at 113, Colton Davidson first at 126, Chase Peppers third at 132, Wyatt Fletcher second at 145, and Dalton Black first at 195.
The Tigers will get a good look at where they stand early as they face one of the top programs in the state on Wednesday as they are scheduled to travel to Star Valley to take on the Braves.
