CHEYENNE – Two more people were recently sentenced after being convicted of Methamphetamine charges. Both came from investigations from a task force focused on the larger operations.
Joseph J. Cappo, 42, of Midvale, Utah, was sentenced by Chief Federal District Court Judge Nancy D. Freudenthal on August 17, 2015, for conspiracy to distribute at least 500 grams or more of a mixture or substance containing a detectable amount of methamphetamine and for conspiracy to launder money. Cappo was arrested in Salt Lake City, Utah. He received 188 months imprisonment, to be followed by five years of supervised release, and was ordered to pay a $800 fine and a $100 special assessment.
Joshua Thomsen, 31, was sentenced by Chief Federal District Court Judge Nancy D. Freudenthal on August 13, 2015, for conspiracy to distribute at least 50 grams or more of a mixture or substance containing a detectable amount of methamphetamine. Thomsen was arrested in Gillette. He received 110 months imprisonment, to be followed by five years of supervised release, and was ordered to pay a $100 special assessment.
These cases results from an ongoing Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETF) joint investigation conducted by the Wyoming Division of Criminal Investigation and the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration. The principal mission of the OCDETF program is to identify, disrupt and dismantle the most serious drug trafficking, weapons trafficking and money laundering organizations. Those primarily responsible for the nation’s illegal drug supply.
Other Sentencings
Wyatt T. McMahon, 29, of Buffalo, was sentenced by Federal District Court Judge Scott W. Skavdahl on August 19, 2015, for counterfeiting and forging obligations of the United States. McMahon was arrested in Sheridan, Wyoming. He received 24 months imprisonment, to be followed by three years of supervised release, and was ordered to restitution in the amount of $100 and a $100 special assessment. This case was investigated by the U.S. Secret Service.
Miguel Galaviz-Garcia, aka Alberto Soto-Garcia, aka Miguel Garcia Gutierrez, was sentenced by Federal District Court Judge Alan B. Johnson on August 14, 2015, for illegal re-entry of a previously deported alien into the United States. Galaviz-Garcia was arrested in Rawlins. He received time served, plus ten days, was ordered to pay a $100 special assessment, and is subject to deportation upon release from custody. This case was investigated by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
