ROCK SPRINGS – As people reflect on their lives, often times it includes remembering loved ones lost along the way. Two upcoming events in Rock Springs will focus on those lost.
It’s hard to believe it has almost been 15 years since the day that changed America forever and almost anyone you talk to can tell you where they were on that day in 2001. At the Rock Springs City Council meeting, Mayor Carl Demshar informed the public there will be a ceremony to remember the tragedy in New York as the twin towers fell.
The event takes place on Sept. 11 and will start at 7 p.m. at the big flag on the west side of Rock Springs. Bill Valdez is spearheading the ceremony.
Demshar also spoke about another memorial ceremony planned. Rock Springs Councilman Glenn Sugano passed away Nov. 2, 2013. Not only was Sugano a member of the city government, he also worked for the city of Rock Springs and the Sweetwater County Solid Waste District for many years.
For his service, his love for the city and the work he did to move Rock Springs forward, a memorial will be unveiled in his honor. Sugano was an animal lover and there was not an animal he loved more than his dog Abby. After his passing, everyone remembered how he would take Abby to the dog park everyday and the public shared moments and memories about Sugano and Abby.
The city of Rock Springs started looking at ways to honor Sugano and they could not think of a better way to honor him than put a memorial at the Bitter Creek Park Bark.
On September 13, family, friends and anyone else in the public who would like to be part of the unveiling ceremony are invited to go to the dog park for the unveiling. It will take place at 10 a.m.
