The Rock Springs City Council voted to fill two vacant City Council seats on Tuesday. Interested applicants should submit a letter by December 11.

ROCK SPRINGS – The search for two replacements to fill the open council seats officially began Tuesday night after the Rock Springs City Council unanimously declared a vacancy for the two seats which were held by the Glenn Sugano and Chad Banks.

One open seat is in Ward II and the other is in Ward IV. Now that the council has declared the seats vacant they have 15 days to fill the seats. A full council will need to be present when the vote on the replacements takes place and the vote will be done by secret ballot.

Residents interested in filling the open seats must reside in Ward II or Ward IV. During the meeting, Rock Springs Mayor Carl Demshar said residents interested in serving on the council must submit a letter to the Mayor’s office by Dec. 11.

After the meeting, Demshar told SweetwaterNOW he has officially received two letters and also spoke to another interested party, all of which were in Ward II. The mayor’s office has received no interested so far in Ward IV.

Demshar said he has told people interested they have a very good council with no members having personal agendas. He said personal agendas do not fit in with this council’s vision. Demshar added that although many times this council does not agree with each other, they are team players and are really hoping to find individuals who will fit into the team role.

Demshar wrapped up his comments urging residents in Ward IV who have an ambition to be part of the governing body and politics to submit letters and come forward to fill the empty seat.
