ROCK SPRINGS – March Madness is in full swing and the Western Wyoming Community College ladies get its tournament underway Thursday night in Western Nebraska.
Led by First Team All-Region players Irene Garrido Perez and Dora Goles and Region IX North Coach of the Year Garett Sherman, the Mustangs face off against Eastern Wyoming starting at 6 p.m. Fans of Mustang basketball can watch the game here.
After winning the North conference, the Mustangs received a bye in the first round. Eastern Wyoming comes in with a 20-win season going 20-11 this year. In the South Division, the Lady Lancers went 8-6.
In the first round, EWC defeated Lamar by 10 points, 69-59, with four players in double figures. Sarah Bersang finished with 15, Pamela Bethel added 12, Emily Evans finished with 11 and Anna Perez Gomez put in 10. Bethel also finished with 13 boards on the night.
The Mustangs last played on Feb. 25 and earned a win against Central Wyoming, 78-52. The Mustangs had three players in double figures led by Savannah Hunter with 19. Goles added 17 while Lexi Smith also added 17 in the win.
If the Mustangs win, they return to the court on Friday at 5 p.m.
