Wolves Wrestlers Have Lead After Opening Day of 4A West Region Tournament

CASPER – The Green River Wolves hold a slight advantage after the first day of the 4A West Regional Wrestling Tournament.
The Wolves scored 79.5 points on day one to take a seven-point lead over second place Natrona. Evanston is right behind in third with 70 points.
Even though they are currently sitting in fifth, the Rock Springs Tigers are only 14 points off the Wolves with several wrestlers still alive.

Individual Classes

Cyro Montoya rolled into the semifinals with two wins by pin. Both in under a minute. Justin Flores won his only match of the day to make it to the semis. Unfortunately, both are on the same side of the bracket.
For Rock Springs, Cameron Metcalf won his match by fall to move to the semifinals. He will face Riverton’s Cody Chancellor for a chance at a regional title. Wyatt Evans is still alive in the consolation bracket for the Tigers.

Both Tiger Ashton Dupape and Green River’s Caleb Nathan won their matches by fall. The face each other for a spot in the finals on the line. Green River’s Dan Mondragon is still alive in the consolation bracket.

Green River’s Gage Byers won in 48 seconds to advance to the semis. On the other side of the bracket, Cole Seymour also moved into the semifinals with a win over GRHS’s Talbert Bowen.. Byers will face Riverton’s Justyn Corbett while Seymour will take on Natrona’s Garrett Sheppard. Bowen is still alive in the consolation bracket.

Wolves wrestler Nathan McCann wrestled twice on Friday winning both by decision. He will face Evanston’s Garrett Foster for a spot in the finals. Green River’s Jacob Mortensen and Tiger RJ Stassinos are all still alive in the consolation bracket.

Green River’s Kaycee Cochrane won in under a minute to move into the semifinals. He will face Natrona’s Paulo Benabise. Garrett Harris is alive in the consolation bracket. For Rock Springs, Joe Walker is alive in the consolations.

Green River has two in the semifinals on the opposite sides of the bracket. Ira Dickinson and Eric Clingenpeel will both battle for spots in the finals. Clingenpeel will face Rock Springs Tiger Patrick Debaun who won twice on Friday for a spot in the semis.

Shandon Welsh won twice on Friday as another Wolves wrestler landed a spot in the semifinals. Both wins were by pin. Tiger Teno Trujillo also won twice by pin to land a semifinal spot on the other side of the bracket.

Tiger Wyatt Yenney would move into the semifinals after beating teammate Marcus Kalista in the quarters by technical fall. Green River’s Chance Anderson is in the semifinals on the opposite side of the bracket. In the consolation bracket, Kalista and Green River’s Zack Orr are still alive. They face each other in the consolation quarters on Saturday.

At 160, Rock Springs wrestler Andrew Kettering is the only local wrestler in the semifinals. Tiger Sean Zediker and GRHS’ Russell Ferrell are on the opposite side of the consolation quarterfinal bracket.

Rock Springs Tiger Kell Ransom won by a 36-second pin to move into the semifinals. He will face Dylan Jaure of Kelly Walsh on Saturday. Green River’s Dylan VanGieson lost in the quarters but is still alive in the consolation bracket.
