ROCK SPRINGS – Western Wyoming Community College once again will host the Southwest Regional Science Fair on Thursday, Feb. 6, 2014. The event will be held from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. in Rushmore Gymnasium. Schools and their students throughout southwest Wyoming are encouraged to show off their science smarts with innovative and mind-bending projects.
The registration deadline for this year’s Science Fair is Thursday, Jan. 23. Registration forms may be submitted online at https://swregionalsciencefair.
Students are asked to submit a 250-word abstract and a detailed research plan in support of their project. These materials should be emailed to Natalie Jorgensen at [email protected] and are due no later thanThursday, Jan. 23 .
Competitors will be divided into two divisions: the Junior Division, for students in grades six through eight, and the Senior Division, for students in grades nine through 12. Projects will be judged on such categories as Scientific Thought, Engineering Goals, Thoroughness, Skill, and Clarity.
Category descriptions for the competition include: Animal Science; Behavioral and Social Sciences; Biochemistry; Cellular and Molecular Biology; Chemistry; Computer Science; Earth and Planetary Science; Engineering – Electrical and Mechanical; Engineering – Materials and Bioengineering; Energy and Transportation; Environmental Management; Environmental Sciences; Mathematical Sciences; Medicine and Health Sciences; Microbiology; Physics and Astronomy; and Plant Sciences.
The Southwest Regional Science Fair welcomes the community to check out the many fascinating and ingenious projects on display. Judging will take place between 9:30 and 11:30 a.m., and the awards ceremony will take place at 3 p.m. in Rushmore Gymnasium.
