CARBON COUNTY — On October 19th, at approximately 6:00 p.m. near mile post 266 on Interstate 80 westbound, Wyoming Highway Patrol K-9 “Robbie” and Trooper Dave Chatfield were engaged in a K-9 deployment on a stopped vehicle.

While transitioning from an interior search of the vehicle to an exterior search, Robbie entered into the westbound lanes of travel and was struck by a passing tractor-trailer that had moved to the far left lane of travel.

We regret to report that Robbie died on scene from the injuries sustained from the collision.

The driver of the tractor-trailer was not in violation of any laws at the time of the collision and no charges have been filed. Trooper Chatfield and Robbie began training together on July 21stand started patrolling together in late August of this year.
