LARAMIE – The Wyoming tennis team (17-3, 5-0 MW) closed out the conference season with a 4-0 victory over the Colorado State Rams (9-13 overall, 0-6 MW) on Saturday afternoon. With 17 victories on the season, it’s the most wins in a single-season in program history. The Cowgirls also finished with a perfect 10-0 at home this year.

“This was a good way to send off Dorottya and Miranda on senior day,” head coach Dean Clower said. “Dorottya has had one of the best careers in the history of any of the athletes we’ve had here and Miranda has been a big contributor to our program. The team was ready to go from the beginning, didn’t mess around and it was all business. In doubles, we executed our game plan and it continued in singles. It’s a good way to get ready for the conference tournament. We will celebrate senior day and then get back to business on Monday.”

The Cowgirls made quick work in doubles action by winning two matches to go up 1-0 early in the match. The team of Magdalena Stencel and Milka Genkova dropped just one game in the 6-1 win over Sandra Keta and Madison Porter. Elisa Koonik and Tessa van Der Ploeg were all tied up at two with Emily Kolbow and Alyssa Grijalva but won the final four games for the 6-2 win. Dorottya Jonas and Ana Tkachenko were up 5-3 over Riley Reeves and Celine Voss which wasn’t finished.

Wyoming would keep that momentum going by winning the next three singles matches. van Der Ploeg dropped only one game in her 6-1, 6-0 win over Reeves. Stencel won in straight sets, 6-1, 6-1, against Kolbow while Jonas clinched the match with a 6-2, 6-0 victory against Grijalva. Genkova was up 6-3, 1-0 over Keta but didn’t finish.

UW will be back in action next week at the 2017 MW Championship in Las Vegas. The Cowgirls’ opponent and time have yet to be determined.
