Wyoming’s COVID-19 Hospitalizations Below 60 for First Time Since Mid-October

CHEYENNE — According to the Wyoming Department of Health (WDH), COVID-19 Coronavirus hospitalizations are at 54 today, which is the first time the number of hospitalizations has been below 60 since October 15 when the state had 59.

One month ago today on December 29, the state had 119 COVID-19 hospitalizations, according to the WDH hospitalization report. The state’s peak was 247 hospitalizations on November 30.

Wyoming Medical Center has the most hospitalizations with 19 patients, followed by Cheyenne Regional Medical Center with 13 patients. Sheridan Memorial Hospital has the next highest amount of hospitalizations with five, followed by St. John’s Medical Center in Jackson, which has four patients.

The state’s total for coronavirus-related deaths increased by 25 this week, bringing the total to 596 deaths.

Wyoming’s lab-confirmed active cases sits at 1,605 cases, compared to 1,229 on Monday, January 25.

Among Wyoming residents, there have been 44,116 lab-confirmed cases and 42,511 case recoveries since the start of the pandemic. The state currently has 7,574 probable cases.

Sweetwater County

The WDH reports that Memorial Hospital of Sweetwater County has one COVID-19 hospitalization as of today. 

Two deaths were added to Sweetwater County’s coronavirus-related deaths total this week, bringing the total to 32 deaths. Additionally, Sweetwater County Public Health released details on six of the previous deaths. The details were as follows:

  • A Green River man, age 61-75, died the week of Dec. 27-Jan. 2.
  • A Sweetwater County man, age 76 or older, living out of state, died the week of Dec. 27-Jan. 2.
  • A Superior man, age 77 or older, died the week of Jan. 3-9.
  • A Rock Springs woman, age 61-75, died the week of Jan. 3-9.
  • A Green River man, age 61-75, died the week of Jan. 3-9.
  • A Rock Springs woman, age 45-60, died the week of Jan. 10-16.

The WDH reports Sweetwater County has had 3,328 lab-confirmed cases and 3,234 case recoveries. There are currently 136 probable cases.

Sweetwater County currently has 66 active cases, compared to 88 active cases on Monday, January 25.

Sweetwater County School District No. 2 reported today that their COVID-19 numbers continue to remain low.  As of today, the district has 24 students and six staff members out of school for COVID-19 related issues. At this point, all families of concern have been contacted.
