Wyoming’s COVID-19 Related Hospitalizations Remains in Twenties

CHEYENNE — Wyoming’s total number of COVID-19 related hospitalizations remained in the mid-twenties this week and saw a slight increase since Monday.

A total of 25 COVID-19 related hospitalizations were reported statewide this afternoon, according to the Wyoming Department of Health (WDH).

The WDH’s hospitalization report showed 19 hospitalizations on Monday, the lowest recorded since September 28. But that number jumped back up by six patients as of Friday afternoon.

Wyoming Medical Center (WMC) in Casper has the most hospitalizations in the state with 10 patients. WMC has nine out of its 20 Intensive Care Unit beds open. The Cheyenne Regional Medical Center (CRMC) has the next most with three hospitalizations. The CRMC has 11 out of 25 ICU beds open.

WDH statistics show 46,044 lab-confirmed COVID-19 cases, 44,886 case recoveries, and 671 deaths since the pandemic started in Wyoming. The state currently has 8,306 probable cases and 575 active cases.

This week, Governor Mark Gordon and the WDH announced one public health order impacting salons, barber shops, and tattoo parlors will be completely eliminated on March 1, while other health orders will see less restrictions.

More than 16 percent of the state’s population has received at least one vaccine dose as of February 26 – one of the highest rates in the country, the press release stated. Sweetwater County has been notified of how many vaccine doses it can expect to receive in March.

Sweetwater County

The WDH reports Sweetwater County has had 3,602 lab-confirmed cases, 3,477 case recoveries, and 34 deaths since the start of the pandemic. There are currently 145 probable cases and 94 active cases.

Memorial Hospital of Sweetwater County (MHSC) has one COVID-19 related hospitalization and seven out of its nine ICU beds open per WDH statistics.

Sweetwater County School District No. 2 reported today that is currently has 16 students and staff quarantined because of COVID-19 related exposure.

Sublette County

The WDH reports that there is currently only 1 active case in Sublette County. Sublette County has seen a total of 675 cases, 664 recoveries, and 7 deaths, since the pandemic began.

  • Follow Public Health Orders
  • Practice social distancing of 6 feet or more.
  • Wear cloth face coverings in public settings, especially when physical distancing of at least 6 feet isn’t available.
  • Stay home when sick and avoid other people unless you need medical attention.
  • Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
  • Older people and those with health conditions that mean they have a higher chance of getting seriously ill should avoid close-contact situations.
  • Long-term care and healthcare facilities should follow guidelines for infection control and prevention.
