Pokes Finish in Fifth Place at Ram Masters Invitational
FORT Collins, Colo. – The University of Wyoming men’s golf team carded a 294 (+14) during the final round of the Ram Masters Invitational on Tuesday.
The Cowboys wrapped up the 15-team tournament at the Fort Collins Country Club with a score of 876 (+36) to finish in fifth place. UW carded rounds of 289 (+9) and 293 (+13) before a final round of 294 (+14). Wyoming was led by senior Kamrin Allen in the final round, as he tied the lowest score of the tournament for a Cowboy with his 69 (-1). Sophomore Drew McCullough also scored a 69 (-1) in the tournament.
“Today was tough,” Wyoming men’s golf head coach Joe Jensen said. “All in all, we had a good, solid finish.”
Allen concluded the final round with a 78 (+8). He finished the tournament with a score of 217 (+7), which tied him for 14th place in the 88-man field. Sophomore Drew McCullough wrapped up the tournament with a 75 (+5) in the third round, as he tied for 19th place at 218 (+8).
Sophomore Quintin Pope fired the lowest score of the day for the Cowboys with a 70 (E). He finished the Ram Masters Invitational with a total score of 221 (+11), and tied for 31st place. Junior Ryan Wallen and sophomore Glenn Workman rounded out Wyoming’s team score. Wallen finished at 225 (+15) with Workman closing out the tournament at 229 (+19).
Sophomore Arron Lickteig and freshman John Murdock played as individuals scoring a 224 (+14) and 235 (+25), respectively.
Colorado State earned the team title at 839 (-1), as the Rams fired a 279 (-1) in the final round of play. Kansas followed in second place with a score of 849 (+9). Fresno State finished third with a score of 862 (+22). Wichita State came in fourth place with a three-round total of 873 (+33), as Wyoming rounded out the top five at 876 (+36).
“We need to tidy up our short game,” Jensen added. “In particular, putting. We just didn’t make the tough puts for par and that catches up to you.”
Kansas’ Ben Welle claimed top honors finishing at 206 (-4). Welle shot a 72 (+2) during Tuesday’s final round.
The Cowboys return to action Friday and Saturday at the Mark Simpson Colorado Invitational in Boulder, Colo.

Mountain West Slate Begins For Cowgirls
UW opens conference with Boise State, Utah State
LARAMIE – With the nonconference portion of the schedule complete, the Cowgirl Volleyball team will now focus on its Mountain West opposition and open league action this week as Boise State and Utah State pay a visit to Laramie.
UW will face the Broncos on Thursday before the Aggies take on the Cowgirls on Saturday. Both matches are set for a 6:30 p.m. MT start time.
For the second year in a row, Wyoming reached at least 10 wins in its nonconference schedule with its win over Pepperdine on Friday. It will look to keep rolling into the conference schedule this week.
Last Time Out
The Cowgirls wrapped up their nonconference slate with a weekend sweep of the Wyoming Invite. They grinded out a 3-1 win against Idaho State and a 3-2 victory over McNeese State before dominating in a 3-0 sweep over Pepperdine. Laura Beach was awarded MVP honors as Bridget Shanahan and Allison Waldvogel joined her on the All-Tournament Team.
Wyoming Leaders
Kayla Slofkiss either tied for the lead or led Wyoming in kills in every match at the Wyoming Invite. She finished the weekend with 36 total kills, and was one dig shy against Idaho State of having a double-double in all three matches.
Courtney Chacon is continuing to make her mark in the Cowgirl record books. She is 24 assists away from becoming the ninth player to have 2,000 or more assists in their career. Chacon led UW with 72 assists during the Wyoming Invite.
A trio of attackers in Slofkiss, Beach and Shanahan have led the way for the Cowgirls this season. Slofkiss has tallied 121 kills, as Beach has added 116 with Shanahan close behind with 111 through the first 12 matches.
Copeland continues to impress while among one of the best blockers in the country. Already atop the Mountain West, she is ranked eighth with 69 total blocks and fourth in blocks per set in the NCAA.
Boise State
Boise State storms into MW play having won seven of the last eight. Sierra Nobley was named the MW Offensive Player of the Week for matches played Sept. 14-20. She leads the Broncos with 197 kills and 16 service aces. Nobley is the MW leader with 4.80 kills per set, as Sarah Baugh leads the conference with 11.83 assists per set.
Utah State
Utah State will come to Laramie on Saturday following its MW opener in Fort Collins against CSU on Thursday. The Aggies own wins over Louisiana-Lafayette, Middle Tennessee State, Utah Valley and Eastern Kentucky. Rachel Gale is third in the league with 3.49 kills per set and Hannah Gleason is fourth with 4.22 digs per set.
Wyoming Tennis Concludes Air Force Invite
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The Cowgirl tennis team swept all four doubles matches to close out the Air Force Invitational on Sunday in Colorado Springs.
“We played much better in doubles today. I am proud of the way the team came out to work this morning. In singles, everyone seems to be getting a little better every day. We have to continue working hard and improving every day.” – UW head coach Dean Clower.
Magdalena Stencel and Tessa van der Ploeg opened up the day with a 6-3 win over Aina Hernandez Soler and Madison Porter. Dorottya Jonas and Elisa Koonik also earned a 6-3 victory over Emily Kolbow and Celine Voss followed by Miranda Talbert and Sanne Hoekstra beating Maddie Buxton and Laia Hernandez Soler, 6-4.
Nastya Tokareva and Eastern Michigan’s Renu Sharma finished out doubles action with a 6-1 win against Lily Kreutzer and Lea Krajcovicova from Northern Colorado.
Singles play was also solid for the Cowgirls on Sunday as UW took four of seven matches on the day. Tokareva defeated Pippa Carr of Texas State in straight sets, 6-0, 6-0, followed by Jonas beating Eva Dench, 6-3, 6-1. Talbert earned a two-set win, 7-6, 6-0 over Bianca Birkenstock, while Hoekstra closed it out with a 6-4, 6-3 win over Elisa Nelson of Air Force.
Wyoming will return to action on Oct. 14 at the ITA Mountain Regional Tournament.
