ROCK SPRINGS – The Aquatic Center at the Rock Springs Family Recreation Center has been closed as staff attempts to locate a pipe break.
RSFRC Superintendent Mike Evans informed the board they had to shut down the aquatic center on Wednesday after maintenance workers found gravel in the water. They drained the pool and had narrowed the search down to a 10′ x 10′ x 10′ area.
Park and Recreation Director Dave Lansang explained there had to be opening where the gravel was entering and migrating through the pool. Lansang said the cause of the fault was in the construction of the Aquatic Center and not with the maintenance staff.
Lansang said that the maintenance staff is getting frustrated with closures that they believe are reflecting poorly on the staff’s work.
Lansang said that is why he has told staff to put signs up saying the closures are for reasons beyond the Recreation Center’s control and are due to sub-standard craftsmanship.
This comes on the back of repairs in the new aquatic center after mold and condensation were found in the walls. The pool was closed in October while the walls were replaced. Neither of the repairs is under warranty from the company that did the construction on the new swimming area.
Evans said at this time, they believe the pool area will be closed two weeks while they locate and fix the problem.
