GREEN RIVER — With traditional Easter egg hunts and other events cancelled, one Green River couple decided to spread some cheer by having the Easter Bunny visit.
Sami Doak said she and her husband Ian provided photos with the Easter Bunny at Stellar Coffee last year, and they enjoyed the children’s excitement were so much that they decided to do it again.
“We were talking about getting out the costume so we could at least get a picture of our son and Ian suggested he could sit outside and wave to the kids since everyone is missing out on going to visit the Easter Bunny and do all the Easter egg hunts,” Doak said.
From there, the idea just took off. This week, the Easter Bunny has been spotted at the Doak’s home on Hitching Post Drive sitting on a bench waving to people as they drive by the area.
“We are always looking for ways to give back to the community and bring a smile to someone,” Doak said.
As the word spread about the Easter Bunny being spotted, more residents have driven by the bench. Doak said she posted information about the Easter Bunny on her Facebook page and that seemed to help too.
Even though the Easter Bunny is available for residents to see, Doak said they are following the social-distancing requirements. The Easter Bunny sits on the bench in their front yard and more than 6 feet from the curb.

“We ask that people stay in their car and if they do get out of their cars or walk to please stay on the sidewalk and not touch the fence of anything.” Doak said. “If there are others out of their cars, remember to stay at least 6 feet away from each other.”
Doak said the best way to see the Easter Bunny is to just stay in the vehicle and wave.
“You can pull over in front and wave to him and let the kids say hi, but please remember to limit the time if others are in line trying to wave as well,” she said.
There’s still time to see the Easter Bunny today and tomorrow. Doak said he should be out Friday, April 10, and Saturday, April 11, from 3-4 pm. The Easter Bunny is also scheduled to make an appearance at the Deer Trail Assisted Living’s drive-through Easter egg hunt. That event takes place tomorrow at 10 a.m. where the Easter Bunny will welcome residents who are encouraged to take pictures of him from their cars, according to Executive Director Jeff Smith.
Smith said they bought enough to make 600 goodie bags, which is what they normally do.
“We don’t want to disappoint everybody,” he said.
Smith said they’re a little nervous about hosting the event because it will be the center’s first time. Those who would like to participate can drive in through the Deer Trail entrance which leads them through a paved area and eventually out of the Young at Heart Senior Center parking lot.
