ROCK SPRINGS — Rock Springs High School will host one of its biggest golf invites of the season Thursday and Friday, bringing a nine-school field to White Mountain Golf Course for a two-day competition.
The Rock Springs Invite is scheduled to begin Thursday at 1 p.m., with golfers returning to the course Friday for the second round. The Rock Springs High School calendar lists Friday’s opening time at 8:30 a.m
Joining the host Tigers will be fellow Sweetwater County school Green River, along with Cheyenne Central, Cheyenne East, Evanston, Jackson, Kemmerer, Lyman and Star Valley. For Rock Springs and Green River, the tournament provides the added benefit of playing on a local course. The two teams will look to take advantage of that familiarity while competing against a field that includes several teams they will see throughout the season and postseason.
Lyman will also be in attendance, adding another regional program to the competition.
The timing of the tournament makes it particularly important, with the regular season nearing its conclusion. The 4A regional tournament is scheduled for Sept. 10-11 in Riverton, followed by the state tournament Sept. 17-19 in Evanston. With the final stretch of the regular season approaching, Thursday’s opening round will give the competing golfers another opportunity to sharpen their games and establish momentum heading into the postseason.
