LARAMIE — The University of Wyoming soccer team begins a five-week stretch away from home this week with matches at Gonzaga on Thursday and Eastern Washington on Sunday.
The Cowgirls, 3-2-0, will face Gonzaga at 5 p.m. Thursday. The match will be streamed on YouTube. Wyoming then travels to Eastern Washington for a 1 p.m. match Sunday, which will be available on ESPN+.
Wyoming enters the trip after a 5-2 victory over South Dakota last weekend. Alyssa Glover and Isabel Vasco each scored twice, while Alisa Bunn also found the net. The performance gave Wyoming six different goal scorers through its first five matches.
“It was a big win and will set the tone moving forward,” Glover said. “We had three different goal scorers, which will really set the tone going forward.”
Glover has moved into third place on Wyoming’s all-time goals list with 23 career goals, including four this season. She is two goals behind the school record and also ranks third in program history with 56 career points. Vasco and Maddie Burr have scored twice this season, while Bunn, Brooke Brown and Reese Gould have each scored once. Goalkeeper Haley Bartel has started all five matches for Wyoming. She has made nine saves and allowed five goals, posting a 1.05 goals-against average.
Gonzaga enters Thursday’s match 2-3-1. Amelia Severn and Samantha Snorsky lead the Bulldogs with five goals apiece. Sydney Head has started all six matches in goal for Gonzaga, recording 24 saves while allowing 11 goals for a 1.83 goals-against average. The Bulldogs have faced three Power Five opponents this season, including No. 11 Washington. Gonzaga played Washington to a 1-1 draw. Gonzaga was picked to finish tied for sixth in the Pac-12 preseason coaches poll after finishing tied for fourth in its final season in the West Coast Conference.
Eastern Washington enters Sunday’s match with a 5-0 record and was picked to finish fifth in the Big Sky preseason coaches poll. The Eagles have outscored their opponents 9-1 this season. Mia Miconi leads Eastern Washington with three goals. Payton Hyde has started all five matches in goal, making 31 saves while allowing one goal for a 0.20 goals-against average.
After the two matches in Washington, Wyoming will continue its road stretch Sept. 11 at Montana.
