SWEETWATER COUNTY  — The Sweetwater County Board of County Commissioners approved a contract for a facilities condition assessment during its meeting Tuesday morning.

The contract is between the county and Alpha Facilities Solutions of San Antonio, Texas and will see the county pay $29,356.86 for an examination of 314,366 square feet of county buildings. Public Works Director Gene Legerski told the commissioners the company completed an initial facility assessment between 2020 and 2021, but the assessment didn’t cover all of the county’s buildings due to budget allocations. He said he has been speaking with company representatives to find out if they could come back to examine the recently-purchased county buildings, and the Southwest Counseling Service buildings.

“It’s just a good base set to have somebody else come in besides me and say ‘Yeah, everything’s fine,’” Legerski said.

He said the company examines almost everything, with the exception of tearing into walls and looking at wiring. He said the company will also look at equipment such as boiler systems and the new HVAC units on the Sweetwater County Detention Center roof and print QR codes to identify equipment. Legerski said it would help the county keep track of what equipment needs serviced and “not get everybody confused.”  

“They open all the panels, they go through all the plumbing … they go through all the big stuff that we’ve put in the last three, four years,” he said.
