MISSOULA, Mont. — The University of Wyoming soccer team responded to its first deficit in several weeks by scoring three unanswered goals Friday in a 3-1 victory over Montana at South Campus Stadium.

The Cowgirls improved to 6-2-0 with their fourth consecutive victory, while Montana fell to 2-5-0. Wyoming fell behind early but quickly answered, with Hadley Linder redirecting a pass from Reese Gould in the 18th minute for Wyoming’s first goal.

“We were not going hit the panic button,” head coach Josh Purdum said. “We are going to be tested in conference and tested in these types of situations. We need to be sure we are sticking to our game plan, and the girls did a fantastic job not hitting the panic button and kept playing our style.”

“It’s a testament to our mindset,” he added.

Maddie Burr put Wyoming in front in the 54th minute, scoring her third goal of the season after her initial shot was turned away and she followed up on the rebound. Former Green River High School Lady Wolf Isabel Vasco then added some insurance late, scoring her third goal of the season in the 88th minute on an assist from Alyssa Glover.

Vasco’s goal capped another strong performance for the Wyoming sophomore, who helped the Cowgirls pull away in the closing minutes. She was one of 10 Wyoming players to record a shot and finished with four attempts, tying Kiley Ballek for the team lead.

Wyoming dominated the statistical battle, outshooting Montana 22-3. Haley Bartel made one save in goal for the Cowgirls as Wyoming limited the Grizzlies to three shots.

The Cowgirls will remain on the road for their final nonconference match of the season Thursday, when they travel to Colorado State for a 7 p.m. match at the CSU Soccer Field.
