ROCK SPRINGS — Residents with old, unwanted prescription medications can get rid of them through the Rock Springs Police Department and Green River Police Department Saturday as the departments participate in National Prescription Drug Take Back Day.
The departments will accept unwanted prescription drugs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., with the RSPD accepting them in the department’s lobby, while the GRPD will be at the Green River Smith’s. According to the RSPD, keeping medications after they’re no longer needed increases the risk of accidental poisoning, especially with children and pets, as well as the chance they may be stolen. The departments say they can safely dispose of unwanted medications and asks residents to bring them their medications as opposed to flushing them or throwing them in the trash.
The departments will not accept needles, syringes and other sharp medical items, liquids. The GRPD said it will not accept inhalants or over the counter drugs.
